Longest sea bridge in Southeast Asia opens to traffic

The bridge is part of the Tan Vu-Lach Huyen Highway project in the Northern city of Hai Phong, which is expected to cut down travel time and reduce risks in transport by ferry and barge.

The project is also expected to help boost Hai Phong’s coastal economic development, attract investors to projects in Dinh Vu-Cat Hai Economic Zone, and promote tourism in the UNESCO-recognized Cat Ba Biosphere Reserve and neighboring areas.

With the total length of 15.63km, the highway begins at the intersection with Ha Noi-Hai Phong Expressway and ends at the gate of Lach Huyen Port

Speaking at the ceremony, PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc stressed on the significance of the bridge opening to traffic on the National Day (August 2).

He hailed the efforts made by the Ministry of Transport, relevant ministries and sectors, consultants, supervisors, contractors, engineers and workers of Viet Nam and Japan relevant ministries and sectors, consultancies, supervisors, contractors, engineers and workers of Vietnam and Japan, who have tried to put the project into operation ahead of schedule.

The Government chief also thanked Japanese leaders and people, especially the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) office in Ha Noi, for financial assistance and close coordination in project implementation./.
