Agro-forestry-fishery export turnover surges

VGP – Overseas shipment of agro-forestry-fishery products hit US$ 23.66 billion in the first eight months, representing a year-on-year surge of 13.5%, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) reported.

The MARD announced that export turnover of agro-forestry-fishery products reached US$ 3.1 billion in August.

Rubber saw the fastest growth, up 11.2% in quantity and 52% in value against the same period last year. Specifically, 160,00 tons of rubber were shipped abroad in August, earning US$ 243 million. In the first eight months, export turnover of rubber was estimated US$ 1.36 billion.  

The vegetable sector witnessed a sharp rise, jumping 46.5% in value in comparison with the same period last year. Overseas shipment of vegetables was US$ 296 million in August and US$ 2.32 billion in the first eight months.

Aquaculture earned US$ 749 million in export turnover in August and US$ 5.13 billion in the first eight months, making it the largest contributor to the sector's export value.

Rice and paddy production saw a surge of 19.8% in quantity and 17.5% in value. So far, Viet Nam has shipped 3.96 million tons of rice and pocketed US$ 1.75 billion.

Coffee, however, experienced a decline in export quantity. In the first eight months, coffee export was estimated at 1.02 million tons in quantity, down 19.9%, and US$ 2.33 billion in turnover, up 3%.

Cashew export also suffered a drop of 1.1% in quantity but saw a rise of 24.9% in value in comparison with the same period last year./.
