VN, UNESCO discuss bilateral cooperation

UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova is on an official visit to Viet Nam from August 24-27. This was the third official visit of the Director-General to Viet Nam after the previous ones in 2010 and 2013.

At the talks, both sides agreed that the relations between Viet Nam and UNESCO have progressed and reached a new height after the historic visit of former PM Nguyen Tan Dung to UNESCO in 2015. So far, a large number of goals which are stipulated at the Memorandum of Understanding between Viet Nam and the international organization have been implemented effectively.

 Trung, who is Deputy FM, emphasized the significance of UNESCO in fulfilling the UN Sustainable Development Goals and sought further cooperation from the international body. Mr. Trung also recommended that the Viet Nam National Commission for UNESCO and the UNESCO Office in Ha Noi strengthen cooperation.

In reply, the Director-General underscored the important contributions of Viet Nam to the international body. Ms. Irina Bokova also praised Viet Nam as a bridge to promote the linkages between ASEAN and UNESCO especially on the occasion of the 50th ASEAN founding anniversary./.
