Vietnamese, Spanish corporations join mining deal

VGP - Việt Nam’s National Coal Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) and Spain’s DEFEX SA Group have signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation and development.

Addressing the signing ceremony on Wednesday, Spanish Ambassador to Việt Nam Joledad Fuentes said the landmark event kick-starts long-tern cooperation between the governments of Việt Nam and Spain.

According to Vinacomin’s CEO Trần Xuân Hòa, DEFEX SA Group will assist the Vietnamese partner in protecting environment and building houses for workers, power plants, infrastructure, seaports and railways.

The Spanish group will also help Vinacomin to disburse preferential aid packages provided by the Spanish Government and other international organizations.

In 2009-2010, the two sides will implement some specific projects, such as building high quality houses for miners and rehabilitating the environment in Quảng Ninh Province, mining, and building the 100 MW Phú Quốc thermo-power plant.
