PM Phuc: VN signs deals worth nearly US$15 bln

VGP – PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc said Tuesday that Viet Nam has signed deals worth nearly US$15 billion during his official visit to the US, mainly for high-tech equipment and services.

PM’s first activities in Washington D.C.

The Government chief released the news at a seminar co-organized by the US Chamber of Commerce (USCC) and the US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC), which was attended by US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and representatives of 300 businesses from both countries.

American investors have poured over US$10 billion in Viet Nam while US’s exports to Viet Nam increased 77% over the past years, said PM Phuc.

Viet Nam attaches special importance to accelerating economic and trade cooperation with the US, affirmed PM Phuc, adding that American investors have made practical contribution to the process of reform, international integration and economic development in Viet Nam.

He however pointed out that the US’s investment volume in Viet Nam still remains modest compared to its potential, ranking 9th among 116 countries and territories in the country.

PM Phuc pledged to encourage and faciliate US investment in such priority areas like high technology, energy, infrastructure, education and training, finance and banking,

He highlighted the fair trade relations between Viet Nam and the US will bring benefits to both countries.

PM Phuc also took the occasion to directly chat with American business representatives on various issues of their concerns.

The US business representatives affirmed their support for stronger relations between the two countries while highly valuing the Vietnamese Government’s efforts to build a fair and healthy playground for foreign businesses, including those from the US./.

They also affirmed their strong support for Viet Nam to successfully host the APEC Year 2017./.
