The US company IBM and Thailand’s FXA Group are cooperating with the Vietnamese State Agency for Technological Innovation (SATI) and the Việt Nam Association of Seafood (VASEP) to boost up the use of data-capture technologies like linear barcodes, 2-D barcodes and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) to guarantee the quality of seafood exported from Việt Nam.

It is part of a SATI's pilot project. Accordingly, IBM and FXA will provide Vietnamese exporters with an RFID solution to overcome technical barriers in international trade and raise quality and credibility of made-in-Việt Nam seafood products.

Bình An Seafood Joint Stock Company (Bianfishco) in Cần Thơ City and the Cà Mau Frozen Seafood Processing Import Export Corporation (Camimex) are reported to become the first users of the technology.

"In collaboration with retailers and government agencies, we are raising consumers’ confidence by providing innovative technologies for tracing not only the origins and ingredients in food but also the path they have travelled before they arrive at stores," said Mr. Girish Vasudevan, Territory Executive of IBM Việt Nam.
