On this occasion, a seminar on employment promotion for job seekers with disabilities was jointly held by the Human Resources Development Working Group (HRDWG) and the Group of Friends on Disability Issues (GOFD).

A representative from the GOFD quoted a report as saying that in the Asian Pacific Region, every six people includes a person with disability. Hence, the region has up to 650 handicaps with different types.

People with disabilities found it difficult to find jobs. In addition, they received inappropriate and unstable jobs in comparison with their disable conditions.

According to the  United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), up to 90% of children with disabilities are out of school. They are educated at special schools and limited to contact with normal children.

An expert proposed an effective education system so that children with disabilities will be able to study together with normal kids. Hence, the handicap will integrate effectively into society. Their families will have to pay less on education at ordinary schools instead of special ones.

Delegates took the occasion to discuss researches and actions of the Asian Pacific Region on promotion of employment for people with disabilities, including laws, policies, lessons on job generation, elimination of discrimination against the handicap, support for the handicap to come back work after labor incidents./.
