The event includes three main discussions, focusing on sustainable development goals and the role of parliaments, enhancing gender equality and improving health in the context of responding to climate change, challenges, opportunities and climate change response activities in the region, international commitments and requirements for legislators and mobilization of resources for realizing the sustainable development goals.

The symposium creates an opportunity for delegates in the Asia-Pacific, sponsors and international organizations to share experience and enhance cooperation in the implementation process of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

It manifests the responsibility of Viet Nam in the IPU’s activities, especially when Viet Nam’s NA has been elected as a member of the IPU Standing Committee in the 2016-2019 period.

With the participation of members from 20 nations and a number of international organizations, the successful organization of the event is aimed at increasing the role and status of the Vietnamese NA in the region and the world.

It also helps improve the awareness of ministries and localities at all levels and local people about climate change and its threats to the socio-economic development.

The IPU-132, which was organized in Ha Noi from March 28 to April 1, generated common goals between parliaments, contributing to the security of peace, strengthening friendships and cooperation between countries and parliaments, and promoting the development of the international community into the future.

The Ha Noi Declaration was ratified on April 1, which reflects the vision, commitment and actions of all IPU members for sustainable development and the welfare of all people from nations all over the world.

The document expressed the aspirations and commitment of IPU members and parliaments to promote the implementation of sustainable development goals with a vision in place until 2030.
