PM Phuc meets Thai counterpart on ASEAN Summit sidelines

VGP – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha on Saturday expressed their pleasure at the fine advancement of the Viet Nam-Thailand strategic partnership during their meeting on the sidelines of the 30th ASEAN Summit in the Philippines.

The two Prime Ministers agreed to work toward balancing trade ties and educate their people not to fish illegally off each country’s waters.

Phuc asked the two sides to beef up high-level visits and effectively deploy the existing cooperation mechanisms.

He suggested both sides should begin talks on bilateral agreements on criminal extradition and judicial assistance and establish a hotline to settle maritime incidents.

Regarding ASEAN cooperation, the two leaders agreed to enhance coordination of positions and viewpoints on regional security and strategic issues, including the full and effective implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea and pushing for real progress in the talks on the Code of Conduct in the East Sea.

The Thai Prime Minister took the occasion to invite his Vietnamese counterpart to pay an official visit to Thailand./.
