Speaking at the 30th ASEAN Summit in the Philippines, Phuc said intra-ASEAN cooperation and connectivity is of significant importance for regional growth amid rising global trade protectionism.

As small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) account for over 90%, the Vietnamese Government chief urged ASEAN to expeditiously finalize an action plan to implement the SMEs Development Strategy for the period 2016-2025 while increasing resources for startup, innovations and financial access.

To push for a people-centered, people-oriented ASEAN, the member countries need to encourage and create favorable conditions for people to actively engage in and master the process of the ASEAN Community building, Phuc said.

Over the past five decades, ASEAN has been seen as an example of regional connectivity based on solidarity and unity among the member countries./.
