The pair, who are now in the Philippines for 30th ASEAN Summit and related meetings, expressed their pleasure at strong advancement of the Viet Nam-Malaysia strategic partnership over the past time, agreeing to further step up cooperation in trade, investment, oil and gas exploitation and maritime domains.

Najib promised to step up cooperation with Viet Nam in food processing for Muslim people and consider increasing man power import from Viet Nam.

He also assured that Ms. Doan Thi Huong, who was arrested by Malaysia following the death of a citizen of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport on February 13, will be tried impartially with her legitimate rights ensured.

Exchanging views on regional and international issues of common concerns, the two Prime Ministers agreed to maintain consultations and close coordination in order to build an ASEAN of solidarity and unity, and to promote its central role in addressing strategic issues in the region, especially the East Sea issue.

Both sides underlined the importance of maintaining peace, stability, security, safety and freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea, pursuing the common position of settling disputes through peaceful measures with respect for international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and diplomatic and legal processes.

They vowed to work closely together for early conclusion of a binding Code of Conduct in the East Sea./.
