NA Chairwoman holds talks with Swiss President of Council of States

VGP – National Assembly (NA) Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan held talks with President of the Council of States of Switzerland Ivo Bischofberger on March 29 during the latter's official visit to Viet Nam from March 28-31.

The NA Chairwoman hailed the developments in the two nations’ relations in terms of politics-diplomacy, trade-investment and cooperation, proposing the two nations enhance delegation exchanges and coordination at multi-lateral forums.

Switzerland is a crucial economic partner of Viet Nam in Europe, she affirmed, expecting that Switzerland continues encouraging its enterprises to invest in Viet Nam in such areas as finance-banking, insurance, high technology, manufacturing, pharmacy, agricultural processing, tourism, hotels and hospitability.

She thanked the Swiss Government for providing US$90 million in the Official Development Assistance (ODA) for Viet Nam in the 2017-2020 phase, asking the two sides to closely cooperate in using the ODA effectively.

Mr. Ivo Bischofberger confirmed that his visit is aimed at strengthening the two nations’ legislative links and promoting the multi-faceted relations.

Switzerland always advocates the Free Trade Agreement between Viet Nam and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), which will create a legal framework and investment and trade opportunities for all sides’ business communities.  

At the talks, the two sides shared experience in law establishment in environmental protection and education and training through the establishment of high-quality education system, providing more scholarships for Vietnamese students to Switzerland in fields of law, banking, high tech and tourism and Switzerland’s organization of vocational training for Vietnamese students.

Ms. Ngan proposed Switzerland facilitate Overseas Vietnamese to stabilize their lives in the country.

The two sides asserted that parliament cooperation is one of effective channels in the two nations’ relationship, agreeing to strengthen delegation exchanges in the future.

The occasion, Mr. Ivo Bischofberger invited NA Chairwoman to pay an official visit to Switzerland.
