The policy consultancy meeting for the Government, attracting the participation of foreign specialists and intellectuals and overseas Vietnamese professionals, created a crucial dialogue channel to give comments on the policy-making process and the Government’s policy monitoring.

The meeting focused on three main issues including the status of Viet Nam in the global production and value chain, the industrial policy for Viet Nam in the next period and tackling growth and development obstacles.

Ph.D. Tran Ngoc Anh from Indiana University Bloomington, the U.S. pointed obstacles of Viet Nam’s growth such as financial expenditures, human resources, infrastructure and the effectiveness of the administrative body.

He suggested the Vietnamese Government establish an effective evaluation system of its operation with specific measuring indexes, heading to a facilitating and action-oriented Government.

Professor Tran Van Tho from Waseda University, Japan, supposed that in the context of Viet Nam’s intensive integration into the world’s economy, it is necessary to prevent the outsourcing trap in joining the value chain.

Speaking at the event, the PM affirmed that the Government respects and will spend more time listening to comments from professionals to work out more suitable and effective policies.

The PM proposed the Government Office cooperate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Viet Nam Initiative to establish a channel to mobilize the international and domestic intellectuals to advocate the Government in policy consultancy and information sharing.

The Viet Nam Initiative is a global hub for research and training in development policy for Viet Nam. It conducts policy analysis requested by the Vietnamese policymakers. These analysis are carried out by research associates from more than 40 major universities, law firms and international institutions  across the U.S. and the world.
