PM works with Quang Nam local leaders

The Government leader made the suggestion on September 28 in Ha Noi while working with Quang Nam’s leaders.

He praised the locality’s comprehensive development, especially in tourism, mechanics, infrastructure, better living standards especially ethnic minority groups, as well as administrative reform.  

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc suggested Quang Nam province shake hands with Da Nang and Quang Ngai provinces to form an economic hub in the Central Coast.

PM welcomes RoK’s groups to invest in VN

The Vietnamese Government is working to improve the investment climate and create the best possible conditions for foreign businesses, including those from the Republic of Korea, to invest in the country.

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc made the statement while receiving Global Business Advising Director at CJ Group Jung Young Soo in Ha Noi on September 28.

He underlined the Vietnamese Government’s efforts to stabilize the macro economy, achieve a high economic growth and maintain a stable and peaceful political environment.

World Vision International supports poverty reduction in VN

The World Vision International (WVI) pledges to continue its contributions to poverty reduction, sustainable development, and climate change mitigation in Vietnam, its President Kevin Jenkins assured President Tran Dai Quang during a meeting in Ha Noi on September 28. 

Jenkins thanked the Vietnamese leader for appreciating WVI’s activities in Vietnam, adding that the organization targets supporting the poor and the most vulnerable worldwide. 

President Quang congratulated Jenkins on receiving the Friendship Order – the highest decoration of the Vietnamese State in honor of foreign individuals and organizations which foster friendship between Viet Nam and countries worldwide. 

Revised anti-corruption law should better accord with UN convention

The revised Anti-Corruption Law should accord with relevant laws and the United Nations Convention against Corruption, participants said at the third session of the National Assembly (NA)’s Committee for Legal Affairs. 

On the last day of the session on September 28, they noted the NA has approved many laws with anti-corruption regulations such as the laws on the State budget, investment, public investment and enterprises, the Penal Code, the Civil Code, the Criminal Procedure Code, and the Civil Procedure Code. 

NA Chairwoman meets Cambodian leaders, leaves for Myanmar

National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and President of the Senate of Cambodia Samdech Say Chhum vowed to do their best to strengthen ties between the two legislatures, partly through the exchange of high-level visits and professional expertise, during their meeting in Phnom Penh on September 28. 

Ms. Ngan suggested the two neighboring countries further raise public awareness of the tradition of giving mutual support to each other, especially in difficult times, among young generations. 

EU re-imposes anti-dumping duty on VN’s footwear

 The European Commission (EC) has decided to re-impose a definitive anti-dumping duty and collecting definitely the provisional duty imposed on imports of certain footwear with uppers of leather originating in Viet Nam. 

According to a recent statement, the EC announced the extension of anti-dumping measures on Vietnamese footwear with uppers of leather for 15 months. The measures expired on March 21, 2011.

VN, EU enjoy more comprehensive cooperation

The cooperation between Viet Nam and the European Union (EU), especially the conclusion of the bilateral free trade agreement at the end of 2015, was highly valued at a meeting held in Belgium on September 27.

Over 350 international guests, staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in Belgium and overseas Vietnamese gathered at the event to exchange opinions on issues of common interests.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Belgium and Luxembourg Vuong Thua Phong said Viet Nam’s friendly ties and collaboration with the EU and Belgium in particular has been unceasingly enhanced.

JICA pinpoints challenges for Vietnamese agriculture

Greater effort by Viet Nam agriculture is needed to ensure food safety and hygiene standards are put in place to protect consumers’ health, said speakers from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

At a recent seminar in Nghe An Province, the speakers noted that the agriculture segment of the economy has strived to improve seed, build better irrigation works, and apply VietGAP standards, but nevertheless little progress has been made in resolving fundamental food safety concerns.

Microsoft to aid startup projects in VN

Experts from US tech giant Microsoft will take part in a training program aimed to provide technological assistance and infrastructure solutions for Viet Nam startup projects backed by the Viet Nam Silicon Valley (VSV) project.

According to a memorandum of understanding (MoU) inked between Microsoft Viet Nam and VSV in Ha Noi on September 26, the two sides pledged to jointly aid startups in the technology sector.

Han Ngoc Tuan Linh of the VSV project said those startups participating in the training program will initially receive advice, technological support, infrastructure solutions and special incentives from Microsoft./.
