Nguyễn Dynasty wood-blocks become world documentary heritage

VGP - Wood-blocks of the Nguyễn Dynasty (1802-1945) have been designated as a world documentary heritage by the International Advisory Committee (IAC) of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and added to UNESCO's Memory of the World Register in 2009.

Việt Nam's documentary heritage consisted of 34,555 plates of wood-blocks dated from the Nguyễn Dynasty. They contain the contents of various books on history, geography, socio-politics, military, legislation, education and literature.   
Apart from their historical value, the wood-blocks also have artistic and technical merit as they mark the development of wood-block carving and printing in Việt Nam.
So far, the wood-blocks of the Nguyễn Dynasty are being preserved and stored in Đà Lạt City, Lâm Đồng Province.
Việt Nam is also preparing files on "Doctoral Steles" and a manuscript on President Hồ Chí Minh which will be submitted to the UNESCO for the recoginition.
