VN's export to Cambodia surges

VGP - Numerous economists have assessed that two-way trade activities between Việt Nam and Cambodia are more dynamic than ever.

Việt Nam's exports have started to outstrip those from Thailand and China in Cambodian markets after being left behind over the last three years. Some made-in-Việt Nam products have taken the lead in Cambodia.

The Investment and Trade Promotion Center of Hồ Chí Minh City (ITPC), a government agency specializing in facilitating investment and trade, attributed the success to the fairly good quality and at low cost prices of Việt Nam's goods. In addition, the brand name of Việt Nam high-quality goods fairs is widely expected by Cambodian customers.

Việt Nam is currently exporting various types of commodities to Cambodia, including iron and steel, building materials, medicines, fertilizers, pesticides, plastic products, garment input materials, cosmetics and fruits.      

Cambodia is considered as a broad market with the purchasing power of 14 million people. Việt Nam and Cambodia share 1,137 km of borderline with nine international border gates. Việt Nam's export volume to Cambodia yearly went up by 41.3% in the period of 2003-2008, reaching US $1.7 billion in 2008 and up over 50% against 2007.
