Can Tho-Kien Giang road ground broken

VGP – PM Nguyen Tan Dung on January 17 issued an order to begin construction of a road linking Can Tho and Kien Giang province in the Mekong Delta region.

Addressing the ground-breaking ceremony, PM emphasized that the Lo Te-Rach Soi Highway, a part in the Ho Chi Minh Road which plays an important role for national cause of industrialization and modernization.

The new road will narrow the gap from Rach Gia to HCMC; serves regional transport; contributes to socio-economic development; and ensures national security and defence.  

On behalf of the Government, PM Dung praised relevant ministries, local authorities, and investors for site clearance work and preparation for the groundbreaking.

He also hoped that related ministries, localities, investors, design units would implement the project on schedule and at good quality.

The 53.34km Lo Te-Rach Soi Road will run from Thot Not district in Can Tho to Kien Giang province’s Chau Thanh district with a maximum speed of 100km/h.

In the first phase, the ODA project will cost VND 6,694 billion (US$ 301 million) with VND 4,167 billion (US$ 200 million) coming from the RoK government. Construction will last 30 months./.
