Scholars join int’l workshop on East Sea

VGP – As many as 200 local and international scholars are attending the 7th international workshop on the East Sea which officially opened in the southern province of Ba Ria -Vung Tau on November 23.

The event, jointly held by the Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam, the Foundation for East Sea Studies, and the Viet Nam Lawyers’ Association, will provide a platform for scholars to share information and evaluate the recent happenings and related consequences in the waters.

The participants will also discuss the possibilities to push cooperation in the region.

On the sidelines of the workshop, the Young Leaders Program will also be organized for the first time with an aim to build up a network of young researchers who study the East Sea and discuss new initiatives on cooperation for peace and development in the waters..

Speaking at the workshop, President of the Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam Dang Dinh Quy said although major storms are absent in the East Sea this year, undercurrents are still fierce, threatening the safety of one of the world’s most important shipping lines as well as the lives of millions of fishermen and stability, security and development of the whole region.

The East Sea is dealing with continuous complications, which likely make it a new hot spot.
