27th ASEAN Summit wraps up in Malaysia

VGP - The 27th ASEAN Summit and related meetings wrapped up in Kuala Lumpur on late November 22 with the signing of a Declaration on the establishment of the ASEAN Community.

On this occasion, 60 documents were inked including three most important ones namely the Kuala Lumpur Declaration on the Establishment of the ASEAN Community 2015; the Kuala Lumpur Declaration on 2025 ASEAN Vision, and the ASEAN Convension Against Traficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children (ACTIP).

The 2015 ASEAN Chairman, Malaysian PM Najib Razak, in his closing speech, said the establishment of the single community proved worldwide that ASEAN could become the most competitive region in Asia-Pacific and have influence on the world stage.

The adoption of the 2025 ASEAN Vision will continue the community-building process from 2009-2015 and the ASEAN Community will begin its new journey from January 1, 2016.​

Mr. Najib Razak handed over the Chairmanship of ASEAN for 2016 to Lao PM Thongsing Thammavong, expressing his hope that under Laos’ Chairmanship, the ASEAN Community will continue thriving.

On the sideline of the ASEAN Sumit and related meetings, PM Nguyen Tan Dung met with leaders of other countries including U.S. President Barack Obama, Russian PM Medvedev, Japanese PM Shinzo Abe, Australian PM Malcom Turnbull, Indonesian President Joko Widodo, and Thai PM Prayut Chan-ocha./.
