ASEAN-NZ establish strategic partnership

VGP – ASEAN and New Zealand leaders agreed to elevate their dialogue partnership to strategic partnership.

The agreement was reached on November 22 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at the ASEAN-New Zealand 40th Anniversary Commemorative Summit, on the sideline of the 27th ASEAN Summit.  

ASEAN and New Zealand leaders highly valued the cooperative achievements in all fields.

They agreed to cement and deepen integration and fulfill the goals of the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 and the ASEAN-New Zealand Plan of Plan (2016-2020).

ASEAN leaders welcomed New Zealand’s US$200 million investment in human and prosperous strategies in the next three years.

Both sides approved of prioritized fields especially on maintaining of regional peace and security, resolving of traditional and non-traditional challenges, maritime, economic integration, agriculture, trade, investment, energy, education, tourism, development of SMEs, people-to-people exchanges, disaster management, environment, climate change and healthcare.

The leaders also adopted a declaration on the 40th anniversary of ASEAN-New Zealand dialogue partnership./.
