PM Dung leaves for ASEAN Summit in Malaysia

VGP – PM Nguyen Tan Dung left Ha Noi on Friday for the 27th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at the invitation of Malaysian PM Najib Tun Abdul Razak.

The Government chief is accompanied by Deputy PM, FM Pham Binh Minh, Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang, Deputy FM Le Hoai Trung, Vice Chairman of the Office of Government Nguyen Xuan Thanh, and Ambassador to Malaysia Pham Cao Phong.

Apart from the regional summit, ASEAN leaders will meet with their counterparts from the bloc’s external partners like China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, India, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, the United States as well as the United Nations Secretary General.

The regional leaders will also have a bilateral meeting with the ASEAN Business Advisory Council, attend the high level ASEAN business and investment conference, and hold dialogue with global investors.

During the Summit and related meetings, the leaders will review the realization of the Roadmap for ASEAN Community Building from 2009-2015, figure out orientations and measures to continue accelerating ASEAN connectivity progress, promote the central role of ASEAN in the region, reform the organizational apparatus and working style of ASEAN to meet requirements of the new development stage, enhance ASEAN’s relations with external partners and exchange on the regional and international situation.

The 27th ASEAN Summit will mark a historic landmark in the development of ASEAN as the leaders will sign a document on the establishment of ASEAN Community by the end of this year.

Viet Nam will continue its active and responsible contribution to further enhance the effectiveness of ASEAN connectivity as well as ASEAN solidarity, unity and its role in ensuring peace, security, cooperation and development in the region./.
