ASEAN Ministers discuss trans-national crimes

The Vietnamese delegation to the event is headed by Politburo member and Minister of Public Security, General Tran Dai Quang.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of Malaysia, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, stressed that transnational crime is related to trans-border immigration and financial transactions with the involvement of transnational crime organizations, undermining stability, security, sovereignty and social order of each country and  social structure at all levels.

He called the member countries on making more resolute decisions to combat trans-border crime, especially such new crimes as illegally trade on cultural and natural heritage, wildlife, wood products, electric wastes, ozone destructive chemicals and counterfeit products notified by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

AMMTC 10 is scheduled to adopt a Kuala Lumpur declaration on preventing transnational crime and devise an action plan for the ASEAN on combating new transnational crime, in which necessary matters to cope with newly arising transnational crime will be focused on.

From September 30 to October 2, other related meetings, including the 7^thASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime Plus Three (AMMTC 3) with China, the Republic of Korea and Japan; the 4^th AMMTC Consultant Meeting with China; the 2^nd AMMTC Consultant Meeting with Japan and the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on the Rise of Radicalization and Violent Extremism.
