The 25th Conference of Diplomatic Services convened on the heels of consecutive landmark events: Vietnam's entry into WTO and its successful hosting of the 14th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting. It is aimed at working out specific measures to achieve the targets set by Communist Party and Government for the external services.

On behalf of the Party and State, General Secretary Nông Đức Mạnh hailed and congratulated the external services on the considerable contributions they have made to maintaining national security and political stability and boosting socio-economic development. He requested the sector to strive further for greater performance, refresh themselves, be more dynamic and creative, and bring about breakthroughs to their assignments. The sector should proactively grasp opportunities and bring into full play its advantages and strengths for national development in the times of the country's deeper integration into the international economy, he said.
