“Cracking bamboo” – Musical linkage of modern Western and traditional SE Asia

VGP – Opened on September 15 in Hà Nội with the performance of artists from Việt Nam, China, India, France, Norway, Mongolia and Germany, the Asia-Europe International Music Festival “Cracking Bamboo”, initiated by the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) and co-organized by the Hà Nội National Conservatory of Music and the Goethe Institute, is a good get-together of Western pieces of music and Southeast Asia traditional musical instruments.

Vietnamese artists play traditional musical instruments

Many solo and impromptu performances will be provided by Asian and European artists from September 15 to 22 in Hà Nội, mainly using percussion instruments, string-musical instruments, drums and bamboo flutes.

After the shows in Hà Nội, three groups of Asian and European musicians will continue their performance tour in Hồ Chí Minh City (September 22 to 27), Indonesia (September 22 to 27), Laos and Cambodia (Vientiane from September 22 to 24, and Phnom Penh from September 25 to 28).

The “Cracking Bamboo” International Music Festival’s aim is to form a platform for percussionists to play modern European instruments and traditional South East Asian ones.
