VN, US signed joint declaration on product safety

VGP – The Directorate for Standard and Quality of Việt Nam (STAMEQ), administered by the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the US Consumer Product Safety Commission signed a joint declaration on cooperation in product safety last week.

Accordingly, the two sides will exchange information and documents relating to product safety, consumers’ welfare and awareness; set up training programs for officials and staff in charge of product safety; exchange experts and specialists in product safety to carry out specific cooperative programs.

The joint declaration reads: ”The two sides pledged to promote the safety of consumer product between the two Governments. The two sides affirmed that in a number of high-ranking meetings and training conferences in Hà Nội and Hồ Chí Minh City, American and Vietnamese industrial officials and representatives will put in a great deal of efforts to have mutual understanding of product safety and thoroughly take part in burning product safety issues and other problems relating to textile industry”.

At the signing ceremony, both sides stated the priority in the process of cooperation is that CPSC will provide training courses and information of product criteria in the US market for Vietnamese manufacturers and managers.

It was made known that in December last year; a memorandum of understanding on product safety was signed. In March 2008, CPSC specialists visited and worked in Việt Nam to make a plan for implementing the MoU.
