Chilean President visits General Võ Nguyên Giáp

VNGOVNet – On the occasion of her official visit to Vietnam and attending of the 14th APEC Leaders' Meeting held in Hanoi, President of the Republic of Chile Michelle Bachelet paid her respects to General Võ Nguyên Giáp.

In a cordial and warm ambience at the private house of the General, Chilean President Michelle Bachelet and General Nguyên Giáp and his wife had open-hearted talks of the two nations' tradition to fight for peace and independence, the world's current situation and the prospect for economic and cultural cooperation between the two countries. The Chilean guest expressed her admiration, which is of the Chilean people, to General Nguyên Giáp whom she praised as a talented military and political leader of Vietnam and the world. President Michelle Bachelet asserted that she herself and the Chilean government would cooperate with the Vietnamese government and people for the sake of common interest and prosperity as well as for peace and stability in the Southeast Asian and South American regions, in contribution to the world's general development. General Nguyên Giáp wished the Chilean President success in her State visit to Vietnam and her engagement in the 14th APEC Leaders' Meeting. The General presented the Chilean leader a Spanish version of his book Unforgettable Days and a Vietnamese copy of Hồ Chí Minh Thought and the Revolutionary Path. The General's wife also gave Ms. Michelle Bachelet a silk scarf as a gift.
