Int’l tourists to VN sharply go up

VNGOP – In the first two months, more than 860,000 turns of international visitors rushed to Việt Nam, increasing by 15% against the same period last year and doubling the estimate, reported the General Statistics Office (GSO).

The “To the Origin” program 2008 is one of big tourist events

According to the GSO, international tourists from China reached over 145,000 turns ( 52.2%), followed by the Republic of Korea (about 95,000) and the United States (89,000).

The number of visitors from high-income countries considerably rocketed, especially from Sweden (60%) and Finland (46%).

Over the past two months, many expos and tourist promotion programs have been opened in many cities throughout the country, such as the National Tourist Year Mekong-Cần Thơ; the “To the Origin” Program 2008 in Yên Bái, Phú Thọ and Lào Cai.

This year, the tourist sector targets to welcome 4.8-5 million turns of foreign visitors, up 16.7-19% against 2007, and earn VND 62-64 trillion.
