Gov’t discusses offshore fishing vessel building aid use

The Government will provide VND4.5 trillion (US$214.28 million) for fishermen to help them build offshore fishing vessels.

The decision was made during a meeting of Government standing members that looked into the use of the VND16 trillion (US$761.9 million) package designed to support the building of offshore fishing vessels and those for coast guard and fisheries surveillance forces.

The remaining VND11.5 trillion (US$547.61 million) will be reserved for constructing 32 ships of all kinds for coast guard and fisheries surveillance forces.

Chinese escalations cannot change status quo in East Sea

A Vietnamese Foreign Ministry spokesperson has said China’s recent escalations, including its decision to expand the typhoon warning area to the entire East Sea, cannot reverse Vietnam’s indisputable sovereignty over its Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos.

Viet Nam has sufficient historical evidence and legal foundations to assert its indisputable sovereignty over the two groups of islands in the East Sea.

VN continues opposing China’s illegal rig placement at UN

The Permanent Mission of Viet Nam to the United Nations sent a paper to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon protesting against China’s illegal placement of Haiyang Shiyou 981 oil rig in Viet Nam’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf.

Conference discusses tourist quality in Asia-Pacific

More than 200 delegates from 17 nations and territories attended the 20th Conference on Tourism Policy of Future Development in Asia Pacific Region in Ho Chi Minh City.

The three-day event aims to promote growth rate, increase the quality of tourist activities in the region and support tourist advertisement activities of member nations in the association.

Labor exports to Japan, RoK up 180%

Vietnamese workers sent abroad numbered more than 55,000 in the first half of 2014, accounting for 63.5% of the plan set for the whole year.

The labor exports to Taiwan (China) increased 187%, Japan up 180% and the Republic of Korea up 182% compared to the same period last year.

Over the first half of the year, 16 businesses have been licensed to operate in labor exports, raising the total number of businesses in this field to 196 nationwide.

Tuna exports to Netherlands surge

Viet Nam’s tuna exports to the Netherlands hit nearly US$8.9 million in the first four months of this year, representing a year-on-year surge of 123%, in spite of an overall decrease in the European Union.

Viet Nam now ranks ninth among the nations selling tuna to the Netherlands.

VN – Laos expo opens in Vientiane

The 2014 Viet Nam – Laos Trade Fair kicked off in Vientiane, Laos with the aim of helping Vietnamese businesses expand the distribution network here, paving the way for their goods to Thailand’s northeastern region.

This year’s fair is said to be larger than previous events and gather a wider range of goods, from agro-forestry-fishery products, garments and electrical and electronic appliances to industrial machinery, medical equipment, and tourism services. 

17,000 foreign investors granted with securities trading codes

As of June 30, the Viet Nam Securities Depository (VSD) granted securities trading codes to 17,169 foreign investors, including 2,423 organizations and 14,746 individuals.

The foreign investors bought 1.18 billion stocks, worth VND35,719 billion and sold 855 million stocks, valued VND28,635 billion over the past six months.
