VN legislature condemns China’s wrongful acts

The Viet Nam National Assembly has issued a communiqué, clarifying Viet Nam’s just stance and rebuking China’s provocations in the East Sea.

In a speech at the closing session of the National Assembly in Ha Noi, NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung noted that China has illegally positioned its oil rig Haiyang Shiyou-981 deep inside Viet Nam’s exclusive economic zone and continental shelf since early May.

Hung said the National Assembly had discussed the matter and issued a communiqué demanding that China withdraw its oil rig from Viet Nam’s exclusive economic zone and not carry out similar acts in the future.

He called on fellow Vietnamese countrymen inside and outside the country to stand shoulder to shoulder, supporting the Party and State’s stance, defending territorial sovereignty in accordance with international law, creating a peaceful and stable environment for development, and maintaining traditional friendship between the two peoples.

VN, Philippines’ armies bolster cooperation

Vietnamese and Philippine armies will step up their multi-faceted relations in the coming time as there remains much room for their collboration, said high-ranking officers of the two countries in Ha Noi.

Senior Lieutenant General Do Ba Ty, Chief of the General Staff of the Viet Nam People’s Army, and General Emmanuel Bautista, Chief of Staff of the Philippines’ Armed Forces, shared the view that bilateral defence ties have seen positive developments in the past years.

They agreed that in the coming time, both armies will promote the exchange of delegations at all levels and cooperation in personnel training and boost joint training on search and rescue activities at sea, work more closely to solve the problem of fishermen violating the law while fishing in bordering waters, and exchange views on issues of mutual concern.

VN, South Africa seek to boost defence ties

Lt. Gen. Pham Xuan Hung, member of the Party Central Committee and deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Viet Nam People’s Army, held talks in Ha Noi with Lt. Gen. Derrick Mgwebi, Chief Joint Operations at South African National Defence.

They agreed that in the time to come, the two defence ministries will boost up their coordination, establish cooperation and friendship mechanisms, and implement the agreements reached during the talks, thus contributing to the maintenance of peace, stability and development in the region and the world over.

Lao Government’s special working group visits VN

A special working group of the Lao government led by Lt. Gen. Chansamone Channhalath, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Defence Minister and head of the group.

While in Viet Nam , the group will work with its Vietnamese counterpart on the assessment of the outcomes of the bilateral coordination in the search for and repatriation of remains of Vietnamese voluntary soldiers and experts who died in Laos, sign cooperation documents, and visit a number of army and navy units.

On this occasion, the Vietnamese government will hand over to the Lao government the funding for the rehabilitation of the monument complex in Pak Soong district, Laos’s Champasak province.

Overseas remittances to HCM City to hit US$2 bln

Overseas remittances to Ho Chi Minh City over the past six months of the year are estimated to reach US$2 billion, equaling the figure of the same period last year, according to the State Bank of Viet Nam’s branch in Ho Chi Minh City.

The sum is mainly coming from the EU and the America, and channeled into production and business (70%) and to the real estate (21%).

The total capital mobilization of credit organizations in the city reached VND1,178,000 billion, up 0.61% compared to the same period last year. 97 projects have been approved with a total investment of VND7,518 billion.

Positive signs in industrial production

The Industrial Production Index (IPI) in June is projected to increase 0.5% compared to May and 6.1% from the same month in a year just gone, according to the General Statistics Office.

Accordingly, the IPI is expected to post a year-on-year increase of 5.8% over the past six months of this year.

Some items seeing high growth rates in the first half of this year include steel up 25.4%, cars up 24.2%, cell phones up 22.7% and leather footwear up 22.2%./.

VN Folk Arts Association donates books to Laos

Professor To Ngoc Thanh, on behalf of the Viet Nam Folk Arts Association, handed over a collection of books depicting the lives of Vietnamese 54 ethnic groups to the Office of the Laos’ National Assembly in Vientiane.

These books will help the Lao people understand more about culture of Viet Nam’s 54 ethnic groups, then the two countries will together build, preserve traditional culture and keep Laos-Viet Nam relationship firmly.

Workshop fosters UNESCO-recognised Giong festival’s values

A workshop gathered in Ha Noi to discuss the preservation of cultural values of the Giong festival and promote the festival-based sustainable tourism development.

Participants stressed the need to raise public awareness of preserving and developing heritage values of the festival, which was recognised as part of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

Taiwanese firms value Binh Duong’s investment climate

About 1,000 of 5,000 Taiwanese enterprises in Viet Nam are operating in Binh Duong province, and they highly value the improved investment climate in the southern province, an executive from Taiwan (China) has said.

Soddy Huang, Vice President of the Association of Taiwan Investment Enterprises on the mainland China, made the remark, when his Kingtec Group signed a contract renting 16 hectares of land in Binh Duong to build a factory.

In the first half of 2014, Binh Duong attracted $990 million of foreign investment from 74 new and 60 existing projects, fulfilling 99% of its yearly plan./.
