He reiterated the block’s importance in Viet Nam’s foreign policy to ensure regional peace, stability and prosperity and enhance ASEAN countries’ status in the international arena.
ASEAN connectivity has become more challenging as the block must enhance the connectivity within the block and with East Asia via the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).
Viet Nam has actively improved its laws to match with ASEAN practices and regulations in economic connectivity, political and security cooperation, especially maritime security, the official stressed.
Prof. Joseph Weiler from the European University Institute said that legal issues should match with new developments to make the community really meaningful to the common development when it is established in 2015. He stressed that economic policies should be improved to boost economic ties among the member countries.
Nearly 100 delegates, who were diplomats, scholars, experts and business representatives from over 20 countries, discussed commercial, integration and investment issues affecting all ASEAN member countries.
