Under its foreign policy, Viet Nam expects to be a trusted friend and partner, and responsible member of the international community.

The country’s bid for the membership of the UN’s highest human rights council reflects the Vietnamese Party and State’s consistent stance on respecting and protecting human rights.

The council's highest percentage support for Viet Nam is of significant importance, the top Vietnamese diplomat noted.

Over the past years, the international community has praised the great achievements in various fields gained by Viet Nam during its national development course. Despite economic hardships, the country has already successfully fulfilled five out of eight millennium development goals, bringing practical benefits to people.

Foreign Minister Minh affirmed that Viet Nam will enhance coordination with other members of the UN Human Rights Council to contribute to human rights issues of global concern in a constructive and responsible manner.

Viet Nam will also actively accelerate human rights dialogue and international cooperation and pursue a balanced and comprehensive human rights approach, he added./.
