Typoon Nari moves towards Hoang Sa

At 7 AM today, the storm was centered at 15.3 N, 114.7 E, about 300km East-Southeast of Hoang Sa Islands, with gusts of 134-149km per hour.

On Monday morning, the typhoon will continue to move to the Southwestern area of Hoang Sa, or 250 km away from Quang Tri and Quang Ngai provinces.

Due to the storm, the National Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention convened a meeting on October 12 to discuss ways to deal with the typhoon.

The Committee decided to call back all fishing boats in "dangerous areas" and protect water reservoirs from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen. Provinces from Ha Tinh to Quang Ninh were assigned to prepare plans to evacuate residents.

Nari pummeled Central Luzon early yesterday morning, ripping roofs off buildings, killing 13 people and leaving more than two million people without electricity, the PhilStar reported Sunday.

It slammed into Aurora province around midnight Friday, toppling trees and pylons, as it cut a westward swathe through the farming regions of Luzon, local officials said.

More than 2,500 people were evacuated from several coastal villages of Aurora hours before the typhoon made landfall, said provincial disaster officer Amado Elson Egargue, according to the newswire./.
