VN calls for quick conclusion of TPP negotiations

VGP – Viet Nam recognizes the importance of the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP) and calls on relevant parties to complete negotiations soon, said Deputy PM Vu Van Ninh.

The Deputy PM made the statement while receiving Acting US Trade Representative Demetrios Marantis in Ha Noi on April 23.

Viet Nam’s participation in TPP negotiations reflects the Government’s determination to accelerate international economic integration.

Ninh urged the two countries to closely coordinate in seriously reviewing divergences and discussing ways to remove them.

He also spoke highly of positive progresses in bilateral economic, trade and investment cooperation over the past time.

The US is the biggest importer of Viet Nam. The two-way trade turnover increased to US$26 billion in 2012 from US$2 billion in 2001.

For his part, Demetrios Marantis said the US Government highly values the specific results of the bilateral cooperation in trade and investment.

Regarding TPP negotiations, both sides need to continue making effort to narrow gap in the next rounds of talks, said Demetrios Marantis.

TPP will make Viet Nam’s business environment more attractive to foreign investors, the US Trade Representative believed./.
