VN-Cambodia comprehensive cooperation enhanced

VNGOVNet – The special flight transporting PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng and the Vietnamese Government’s high-ranking delegation to the Kingdom of Cambodia landed the Pochentong International Airport (Phnom Penh) at 10 AM of December 18. Cambodian PM Samdech Hun Sen welcomed his Vietnamese counterpart at the foot of the airplane. PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng was then warmly welcomed by Phnom Penh people.

Right after the solemn formal reception at the Pochentong Airport, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng and the Vietnamese Governmental delegation laid garlands at the Independence Monument and the Vietnamese Volunteer Soldiers’ Monument.

Then, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng paid a courtesy visit to Acting Head of State, President of the Cambodian Senate Chea Sim and had a meeting with President of the National Assembly of Cambodia Heng Samrin.

In the afternoon of December 18, at the head office of the Cambodian Ministerial Council, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng had talks with Cambodian PM Hun Sen.

In the talks, the two sides informed each other about the situations of the two countries; extensively discussed ways of boosting bilateral cooperation and the regional and international issues of common concern. The two sides agreed to further promote their cooperation in some fields, such as agriculture, hydroelectricity, transport, mining, oil and gas, rubber planting, and tourism. The two sides pledged to boost bilateral trade and economic cooperation to fulfill the two countries’ potentialities and desires, striving to increase two-way trade turnover to US$2 billion by 2010.

They agreed to strengthen cooperation in education and training, health, especially among provinces sharing the same border. In this spirit, the two sides showed their support to the 3rd Meeting for Cooperation and Development in Border Provinces to be held in Long Xuyên City, An Giang Province, in Vietnam at the end of the year.

About regional and international cooperation, the two PMs highly appreciated the Prime Ministers’ Meeting of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia organized in Đà Lạt, Vietnam in early December 2006. The two sides expressed their satisfaction with mutual cooperation and support in external affairs by sharing information and exchanging opinions at the United Nations, Francophonie, Non-Aligned Movement, ASEAN, ASEM and other regional and international fora. They stressed their cooperation in implementing the projects on East-West corridor and in the Mekong Sub-region.
