This is the first thermoelectricity project in which the Vietnam Machinery Installation Corporation (LILAMA) functions as engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor. The project investor is the Vietnam Electricity Corporation (EVN), investing total US$300 million. The expanded Uông Bí Thermoelectric Plant, after being put into operation, will generate 2.68 billion kWh per year, helping to ease the shortage of electricity in North Vietnam up to 2009.

LILAMA is now preparing a project to build the Uông Bí Thermoelectric Plant 2 with designed capacity of 300 MW.
