US to spend budget to deal with Vietnam AO impact

VNGOVNet – The Special Envoy of the US Senate’s Appropriations Subcommittee on State, Foreign Operations and Related Programs has claimed that the US Congress will spend budget to handle Agent Orange/dioxin impact in Vietnam. This is the first time the US Government has set aside budget appropriations to such activities.

After great efforts of American individuals and non-governmental organizations over the past three decades, the US Congress has eventually decided to involve itself in dealing with the Agent Orange/dioxin legacy in Vietnam left over from the wartime. This was affirmed by the Special Envoy of Senator Patrick Leahy, chairman of the subcommittee, in a press conference in Hanoi on December 17 .

The activities might start in 2007 to detoxify Agent Orange/dioxin at hotspots and support victims.
