VN's largest petrochemical project to be kicked off

VGP - The Southern Petrochemical Complex, groundbroken on September 25 in Bà Rịa - Vũng Tàu Province, will be Việt Nam’s ever-largest petrochemical project with the total investment of US $4 billion and the capacity of 3 million tons of products a year.

The complex will come into operation by the end of 2012, providing plastic products like HDPE and LDPE to the domestic market. It is expect to offer 1.45 million tons of polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) each year, meeting around 65% of the whole country's demand for these products.

Moreover, it will also supply 730,000 tons of chemical materials to produce polyvinyl clorua (PVC) and other 840,000 basic chemical substances for petrochemical industry.

During its construction stage, the complex attracts around 10,000 labors and will generate 1,500 jobs after coming into operation.

PetroVietnam, Việt Nam Chemicals Corporation (Vinachem), Thailand's Cement Corporation's Vina Chemical Company (Vina SCG Chemicals) and Thailand Plastic and Chemical (TPC) are the main investors.
