VN vigorously expands rice export in the rest of 2008

VGP - In late 2008, Việt Nam will boost its rice export with a view to accelerating its agricultural production, adequately meeting the domestic demand, and contributing to stabilizing the global food security.

To effectively facilitate the sale of agricultural products in the remaining months, Vietnamese rice exporters are proactively stepping up the delivery of rice under the signed contracts, completing the under-negotiation ones, and seeking for new ones with new partners.

They are permitted to accommodate rice deliveries in the rest of the year, without any limitation on monthly export volume.

Việt Nam’s intention of fostering rice export not only aims at giving a nudge to its agricultural production and guaranteeing the domestic supplies but also realizes its commitment to join in addressing the world’s current food crisis.

In early September, addressing the Social Forum’s session on food security and the right to food, held in Geneva (Switzerland),

 Minister Counselor Vũ Anh Quang, Việt Nam’s Permanent Representative to the UN and other international organizations, stated that Việt Nam is taking a score of urgent measures to exercise people’s right of having food and contribute to global food supplies.

He also highlighted that the Vietnamese Government had adopted the food

The actual total rice export of Việt Nam was nearly 3.4 million tons for first eight months, earning US $2.2 billion.

This year, the country sees bumper crops, producing the yearly yield (estimated) of 37 million tons of unhusked rice.

 policies which prioritize food security and long-lasting and stable right to food. Last but not least, Việt Nam entitles the agricultural development and the improvement of its peasants’ livelihood (70% of the population) as vital missions during its cause of industrialization and modernization.
