VN affirms international integration policy

VGP – Vietnam will actively pursue comprehensive international integration, in which economic integration is one of the first priorities, said Deputy PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

The Deputy PM made the statement while receiving Deputy Administrator of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) Donald Steinberg on May 7.

Deputy PM Phuc applauded positive achievements in the Vietnam-Us relations, particularly in the fields of trade, investment, science and technology, education and training.

The US is now the 6th biggest foreign investor in Vietnam with total registered capital of US $11.65 billion. The two way trade turnover in 2011 reached US $21.45 billion, up 19.16% against 2010.

He also highly valued USAID’s support for Vietnam to address issues like climate change, sea-level rise and humanitarian activities over the past time. 

For his part, Mr. Donald Steinberg affirmed that the US would help Vietnam to cope with climate change, clear post-war bombs, and provide assistance to  agent orange/dioxin victims.  

Besides, the US pledges to maintain strong assistance to other programs on such areas like HIV/AIDS prevention, science-technology cooperation and human resources training.
