VN, Japan discuss measures to boost ties

VGP – PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng and his Japanese counterpart Noda Yoshihiko on Saturday deliberated on measures to beef up the strategic partnership between Việt Nam and Japan.

The two PMs noted that the agreements reached by the two countries on economic cooperation in infrastructure, nuclear power and rare earth industry development have been effectively deployed.

Both sides agreed to accelerate cooperation in human resource development, cultural and people-to-people exchanges, and closely coordinate to organize the Việt Nam-Japan Friendship Year in 2013.

PM Dũng thanked Japan for its continued provision of official development assistance to Việt Nam in the fiscal year 2011 despite the Northeast Asian country’s reconstruction process following the recent twin natural disasters.

Việt Nam pledges to create favorable conditions for Japanese investors to do business here and encourages Japanese companies to take part in infrastructure projects through public-private partnership model, he affirmed.

The Vietnamese Government chief also asked Japan to continue its support for Việt Nam to develop auxiliary industry.

PM Noda Yoshihiko said Japan would assist Việt Nam in poverty reduction, climate change adaptation, development and implementation of industrialization strategy through 2020 and East-West economic corridor.

The two PMs also exchanged view on regional and international issues of common concern. PM Dũng spoke highly of Japan’s contributions to the overall success of the 4th Mekong-Japan Summit.

PM Noda Yoshihiko voiced his support for security and maritime safety in the East Sea as well as settlement of disputes through peaceful negotiations with respect to international law, especially the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.
