VN spends half of development capital on rural development

VGP – Việt Nam spent some VND 286,212 billion, equivalent to 52.3% of the total State-funded development capital on agriculture and rural development between 2009-2011.

The figure was released by Chairman of the NA Economic Committee Nguyễn Văn Giàu at a meeting of the NA Standing Committee on April 18.

Preferential ODA resources for agriculture, forestry and aquaculture amounted to nearly US $4 billion.

Over the past years, Việt Nam has adopted a number of policies to boost agriculture production and rural development. As of 2011, 8,940 communes had car-accessible roads to commune centers, accounting for 98.6% of the total communes.

Rural infrastructure development indexes like medical facilities, schools, electricity, clean water, markets, environmental sanitation have also been improving remarkably.

Progress of rural development has contributed to consolidating the country’s security, national defense, safety and order, said Agriculture Minister Cao Đức Phát.
