Delegates to the 12th Asia-Pacific Labour Network Conference (APLN) came from 11 APEC member-economies, including Colombia, Peru, the United States, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Singapore, the Philippines, Vietnam, and five international and regional labour unions.

Mr. Guy Ryder, the General Secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), expressed his desire that APEC leaders will make policies in favours of labourers’ rights and interests. The ITUC wished that APEC leaders will use the APEC Forum to boost sustainable employment and help to create the cooperative relations between labourers and their trade unions.

Prime Minister Nguyễn Tấn Dũng highly appreciated the organisation of the 12th Asia-Pacific Labour Network Conference, calling it an important event to further strengthen the cooperation between the Vietnam Labour Confederation and the International Trade Union Confederation. The event will contribute to the promotion of social progress, bringing about a better life for labourers throughout the world. Prime Minister Nguyễn Tấn Dũng stressed that Vietnam has always highly appreciated trade union’s status and role, considering it an essential factor in the design and implementation of scio-economic development policies. Thus, the Vietnamese Government has paid a special attention to and exchanged regular meetings and dialogues with trade unions and labourers to discover and deal with difficulties in order to enhance labourers’ rights and benefits.

Prime Minister Nguyễn Tấn Dũng wished the friendship between the Vietnam Labour Confederation and the International Trade Union Confederation to further develop for common interests in line with the spirit of the APEC Summit "Toward a dynamic community for development, prosperity and wealth".
