Party leader begins official visit to Cuba

VGP - Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng and a high-level Vietnamese delegation arrived at Jose Marti Airport in Havana on April 8, beginning of an official visit to Cuba.

The visit is being made at the invitation of the First General Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba’s Central Committee and President of the Cuban State Council and Council of Ministers, Castro Ruz.
 
 Welcoming Việt Nam’s Party leader and his delegation at the airport were Jose Ramon Balaguer, Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba’s Central Committee and Head of the Commission for External Affairs, and Victor Gauce, Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba’s Central Committee among others.
 
 Giving a speech to a press conference at the airport, General Secretary Trọng expressed his joy at visiting Cuba , a country he described as beautiful and heroic.
 
 “Despite being on the other side of the world, the mention of ‘ Cuba ’ implies heroism, uprightness, an indomitable spirit, national freedom, socialism and internationalism to the Vietnamese people,” said General Secretary Trọng.
 
 He said that Vietnamese-Cuban relations are fraternal, sincere and unambiguous. After decades of revolutionary struggle, he added, that ties are always developing further and becoming a symbol of the age.
 
 The visit underlines the Vietnamese people’s solidarity and friendship with the Cuban people, said Party leader Trọng.
 
 He expressed his strong support for the Cuban people under the leadership of the Communist Party of Cuba in its struggle to protect its independence, revolutionary achievements and national construction and development that follows the socialist path.
 
 The Vietnamese leader further said that during the visit, senior officials from both countries will discuss measures to continue enhancing their traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation to meet the revolutionary demands of both nations in the future.
 
 General Secretary Trọng extended the Vietnamese people’s warmest friendship and solidarity to the Cuban people.
