The project is designed to increase the value of products, effectiveness of land use and livelihood of farmers. It also checks the sector’s role, potentials and shortcomings to propose strategic development orientations.
Mr. Steven Jaffee-World Bank’s representative in Việt Nam gave recommendations on fields that need focused public investment in the future. He said the role of the Government should be changed from implementation to assistance.
Senior Representative of JICA Việt Nam Office Shimizu Akira suggested boosting up foreign direct investment in food trading area towards value-added and sustainable development way.
The draft project sets the target of increasing 20% of the total output after a period of ten years and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 20%. It means that Việt Nam needs to raise the total output value by 3% and pull down the poverty rate by 2% per year.
Minister of MARD Cao Đức Phát highly valued suggestions and stressed that restructuring the agriculture sector is not only for the sake of Việt Nam but for the whole world.
