VN seeks stronger strategic partnership with Japan

The Vietnamese PM proposed the two sides strengthen relations at various levels through exchange of visits by parliamentary delegations, to enhance ties and mutual understanding.

PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng also proposed the National Diet of Japan, the country’s parliament, support the provision of ODA to Việt Nam, especially in developing infrastructure and coping with climate change, as well as Japanese firms’ coming to Việt Nam to invest in the mode of public-private partnership.

The two sides should also foster cooperation on education, training, security and defense. Việt Nam wants Japan to grant more scholarships to Vietnamese students who study in Japan, said PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng.

The Vietnamese PM proposed Japan continue to cooperate and fund research projects to manage and use resources from the Mekong River more effectively and sustainably.

Mr. Hatoyama said Việt Nam and Japan should beef up economic, trade and investment cooperation, including on energy, rare earth exploitation, and climate change response.

He said he will continue to help bolster the comprehensive cooperation between Việt Nam and Nhật Bản, especially on economy, trade, investment, ODA and education.

Last year, two-way trade between the two countries surged 30%.
