VN National Assembly boosts ties with EU Parliament

VGP - National Assembly (NA) Chairman Nguyễn Sinh Hùng said priority should be given to fostering the cooperative relations between the NA and the European Parliament (EP) as it acts as a pillar supporting the ties between Việt Nam and the European Union (EU) in the coming time.

At the 9th Việt Nam-EU Inter-Parliamentary Meeting on December 5 in Brussels, Belgium, NA Chairman said Nguyễn Sinh Hùng said the meeting was a good opportunity for Vietnamese and European parliamentarians to exchange views on the Việt Nam-EU relations, the cooperation between the NA and the EP and other issues, to enhance mutual understanding and trust.

The NA Chairman said the Việt Nam-EU relations have been considerably broadened and deepened, especially in the fields of politics, economy, trade and development cooperation.

The NA Chairman highly appreciated the progress in the relations between the NA and the EP. He said their bilateral contacts and dialogues and exchanges of delegations at various levels have helped to enhance the mutual understanding, and to create effective communications channels for European parliamentarians to clearly understand what are happening in Việt Nam.

Many European parliamentarians said they will continue supporting and helping Việt Nam in bolstering the economic and trade ties with the EU as well as the legislation cooperation between the NA and the EP. The EU has pledged to develop relations with Việt Nam, helping it accelerate povery reduction…

On the same day, EP President Jerzy Buzek received the NA Chairman Nguyễn Sinh Hùng and the Vietnamese NA delegation. Mr. Buzek spoke highly of Việt Nam’s role and status in ASEAN, and wanted the country to act as a bridge for the EU to approach the region. The EP President said the EU is ready to cooperate and coordinate closely with Việt Nam and ASEAN to cope with global issues, including climate change and sustainable development.

NA Chairman Nguyễn Sinh Hùng and the Vietnamese delegation on December 5 visited Brussels Town Hall and paid a courtesy visit to the city’s Mayor, Freddy Thielemans. They said the two sides will strengthen friendly and cooperative ties.
