PM hosts National Day banquet for diplomats

VGP - Prime Minister Nguyễn Tấn Dũng hosted a banquet for the diplomatic corps on September 1 at the National Convention Center in Hà Nội on the occasion of the 66th anniversary of Việt Nam’s National Day (September 2).

Party General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng, leaders of ministries, sectors and a large number of foreign ambassadors, charges d’affaires and head representatives from international organizations attended the event.

Speaking at the function, PM Dũng said that 66 years ago, the Vietnamese people unanimously united to carry out the magic August Revolution, ushering in a new era of independence, freedom, and social progress for the country.

Over the past two thirds of a century, they have strived to overcome difficulties and hardships to maintain their gained independence, freedom, reunify the country, and make it more prosperous and happy.

Especially, since the renewal process kick-started in 1986, the Vietnamese people have attained a series of achievements of significant and historical importance, progressing with continuous economic development, firm political stability, and improved living standards, he said.

The Government chief went on to say that the country is speeding up the realization of the 11th National Party Congress’ resolution and the Strategy for socio-economic development for the 2011-2020 period, noting the top missions will be to curb inflation, stabilize the macro-economy, secure social welfare, and maintain reasonable growth rate.

On behalf of the Vietnamese government and people, PM Dũng conveyed sincere gratitude to the governments and peoples of countries around the world as well as to the ambassadors and representatives of international organizations for their warm sentiments and precious support for, and effective cooperation with, Việt Nam over the years.

PM Dũng stressed that Việt Nam would always keep in mind all these valuable assistance, support and cooperation, considering them the solid ground for it to nurture and expand friendly relations further.

He also expressed his wish that the ambassadors and representatives would continue to serve as a firm bridge to strengthen the relationship between the international community and Vietnam

Moroccan Ambassador to Việt Nam El Houcine Fardan, on behalf of the diplomatic corps, affirmed the international community’s “will and determination” to cement ties between Việt Nam and other countries, international organizations through effective cooperation and mutual benefits.
