The Government was listening to different reports on the socio-economic situation in 2006; developments in the domestic and export markets in 2006; the administrative reform in 2006; the issue of government gilts and investment with money raised from their sale; and others.

One of the issues attracting the Government’s attention was how to improve the quality of legislation. Up to late 2006, the Government and the PM have issued 502 directive documents, including 35 resolutions, 149 decrees, 38 directions, and 280 decisions. These have supplemented the existing institutions and polices and targeted important and urgent economic, cultural, social, foreign, security and defense issues with a view to consolidating the administration, fighting corruption, maintaining social order, and creating motive force for socio-economic tasks in 2006.

Economically, under the intensive direction of the Government and the PM, the economy has sustained an economic growth rate of nearly 8.2%; export grew well with a value of US$ 39.6 billion; trade deficit was narrowed and lower than 2005. Foreign investment into the country reached the record US$10,2 billion; ODA commitment by the donors totaled US$ 4.44 billion; and the number of poor household was 3% lower than 2005.

The 2006 administrative reform, backed by great efforts of departments and echelons and determination of the Government and the PM, brought about good results, contributing to the country’s socio-economic development, helping to perfect the institutional system, and creating the changes for the better quality and efficiency of administrative agencies.

On December 27, the Government will discuss the establishment of province-level steering boards for anti-corruption; decide exclusive incentives for investments in border patrol roads; and debate the Bill on Chemicals.
