PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng urges drastic, consistent actions in 2007 for sustained growth

The Government’s members listened to a proposal to set up the provincial steering boards for anti-corruption, the Ministry of National Defense’s proposal to give special investment incentives for border patrol roads; and the Ministry of Industry’s bill on chemicals.

The Government members and the PM agreed to the establishment of provincial anti-corruption boards, stressing the need to do it as soon as possible against rampant corruption. The board head will be the provincial People’s Committee chairperson appointed by the PM. The Prime Minister will details functions, duties, terms of reference, organization and code of practice for the board.

About socio-economic development, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng told all ministries and provinces that they must take as drastic and consistent actions as in 2006 and do more in 2007 for socio-economic development across all fields. He reminded them, among all targets, to focus on three major ones: to maintain the high and sustained growth rate; to consider administrative reforms as a breakthrough for socio-economic development; and to ensure efficiency in the fight against corruption.

The PM ordered the ministries and departments to enhance disbursement for projects and strive to open more export markets. During the traditional lunar new year holiday, they must work for market stability, preventing price increases in essentials such as cement, steel, petrol, agro-products, and food. They must also minimize traffic accidents and tackle traffic jams in urban areas, especially big cities like Hanoi, Hồ Chí Minh City, Đà Nẵng, and Hải Phòng.
