Party and State leaders receive, talk with Mozambican President

VNGOVNet – After a formal welcome ceremony accorded to a head of state, in the afternoon of January 16 at the President Palace, State President Nguyễn Minh Triết held talks with the President of the Republic of Mozambique, Mr. Armando Emilio Guebuza. At the head office of the Party Central Committee, General Secretary Nông Đức Mạnh also received and exchanged ideas with President Armando Emilio Guebuza.

Receiving the Mozambican President, General Secretary Nông Đức Mạnh said that the President’s visit to Vietnam created a good chance for leaders of the two countries to exchange their opinions personally as a way to consolidate the traditional friendship and deepen the cooperation between Vietnam and Mozambique and between the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and the Front for the Liberation of Mozambique (FRELIMO). General Secretary Nông Đức Mạnh congratulated the guest on the successful 9th Congress of FRELIMO held in November 2006 which is meant to open up a new period of peace, national independence, democracy, development and social progress for the Mozambican people. He also congratulated President Armando Emilio Guebuza on his re-election as the FRELIMO Chair. The General Secretary stressed the need that Vietnam and Mozambique further their traditional friendship and mutual assistance and promote their cooperation of equality and shared benefits to get out of poverty and backwardness and boost national construction and development. This will not only serve the two peoples’ interests but also contribute to the world’s peace, cooperation and development. The General Secretary also highlighted the enhanced cooperation between the CPV and FRELIMO as an important factor in orientating and promoting multi-faceted cooperation between the two countries, saying Vietnam is willing to share experience with Mozambique and wants to learn from Mozambique’s experience as well. The General Secretary was convinced that President Armando Emilio Guebuza’s visit to Vietnam will bring the friendship and cooperation between the two Parties and two countries to a new height.

Previously on the same day, in the talks with President Armando Emilio Guebuza, on behalf of the Vietnamese State and people, State President Nguyễn Minh Triết warmly welcomed the Mozambican President’s visit to Vietnam, regarding it as a new development in the relationship between Vietnam and Mozambique. President Nguyễn Minh Triết congratulated his counterpart on the successful 9th Congress of the FRELIMO and lauded the achievements gained by the Mozambican people in the cause of national construction and development. President Nguyễn Minh Triết also highly appreciated the role Mozambique plays in the Non-Aligned Movement as well as the African country’s efforts for peace and stability in the region, the strengthening and development of the African Union (AU), and the realization of the Initiative New Partnership for African Development” (NEPAD).

President Nguyễn Minh Triết affirmed that Vietnam insists on its consistent policy of diversified and multilateral international relations, cherishing the solidified and expanded relationships with traditional friends in Asia, Africa and Latin America, including Mozambique. President Nguyễn Minh Triết and President Armando Emilio Guebuza expressed their satisfaction to the good development of the Vietnam-Mozambique friendly and cooperative relationship, and agreed to direct the Governments, ministries, and sectors of the two countries to take measures to boost the bilateral cooperation for the two people’s interests and desire. The two leaders also exchanged their opinions on some international and regional issues of common concern and agreed to further their collaboration on international and regional fora, on which the two countries are members.

President Armando Emilio Guebuza showed his happiness to visit Vietnam. He congratulated Vietnam on its successful organization of the 10th CPV Congress, its becoming the 150th WTO member and its bid for the seat of a non-permanent member on the UN Security Council. The President expressed his admiration at the Vietnamese people’s heroic struggle for national independence and freedom in the past and their great achievements in the cause of renovation and national construction and development under the leadership of the CPV today. The President described Vietnam as a good model of national independence, economic development, social equality and progress, and poverty alleviation for Mozambique and other countries to follow. President Armando Emilio Guebuza confirmed that Mozambique wants to strengthen its relationship and cooperation with Vietnam, especially in agriculture, health, education, trade, and investment. As the Chair of FRELIMO, the President showed his wish to solidify the relation between FRELIMO and the CPV, especially in sharing experience on leadership, Party building and national construction and development and international integration as well.

The President thanked the Vietnamese Party and State leaders and people for their hospitality and good sentiments to him and his Mozambican people. He invited General Secretary Nông Đức Mạnh and President Nguyễn Minh Triết to pay official visits to Mozambique. The General Secretary and State President gladly accepted the invitations.
